Slope of a Line

Suppose we know the line passes through points A(x1,y1) and B(x2,y2). The slope can be calculated with the equation:

[tex]\displaystyle m=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}[/tex]

Two clear points are visible in the graph of the figure: (0,1) and (4,0).

Note: I'm assuming each division of the grid has a measure of one unit.

Applying the formula:

[tex]\displaystyle m=\frac{0-1}{4-0}=\frac{-1}{4}=-\frac{1}{4}[/tex]

The slope of the line is -1/4.
