the moon orbit's the earth in part because of centrifugal force added to the gravity of the earth and sun keeps the moon in the perfect balance that it is in.

Explanation:

centrifugal force is when an object pulls "out" like when you swing some around your body it pulls outward which is why the string is taught so the force pulling it in is the same as the force pulling out as the moon orbits.
